Jelaineism #90: On being a friend

It's been awhile since I posted a Jelaineism anywhere. To be honest, it  kinda sucks that -isms have become mainstream, which is pretty much the main reason why I stopped coming up with them, or at least labelling them such. I'm not saying that I invented them, but seriously, I've been posting them here before they were cool. Lol!

Anyhoo, once in a while, ideas creep up and I feel that it's a waste not to share them. So, here I am, reviving the concept, which I reckon seems appropriate, given that I'm reviving this blog anyways.

Reviving a blog

In the advent of Twitter and Facebook, which are practically microblogs, I, for one fell off the proverbial blog wagon.

As you can see, my last post was from three and a half years ago. How can you blame me? I now have the attention span of a toddler and the patience of an old man, I'm not sure if I can still finish an entire blog entry without getting bored with myself.  As I'm neither an expert nor a celebrity, I don't really have anything interesting to share. So I guess it's inevitable for my blog to just.. Well, die.

Now that I'm entering a new phase in my life, wherein I'm being hopeful that I can achieve work-life balance and delve into both old and new interests, let's see if I'm able to revive this old thing. Let's see how long I'll be able to keep this up.

Blame it on Twitter

A. Mazing.

I can't believe it's been almost a year since I last posted anything on my blog. Seriously, blame it on Twitter. Who would've thought that me, of all people, can actually express her thoughts in 140 characters?!

When I first started tweeting, I didn't think it was possible. And true enough, my first tweets were very mundane, highly-irrelevant blahs from my boring life. And then one day, I'm not quite sure what happened, I just found myself getting the hang of it and being able to condense my thoughts -- regardless of the sentiment -- into short, sometimes sarcastic, oftentimes cryptic thought for sharing. Since tweets can be directly posted onto Facebook, all the more did I turn to Twitter for those short bursts of smart-ass quips... And yes, my blog died.

Nonetheless, we've had a fairly good run -- my blog and I. For a time, this space was my place of refuge when I didn't have a lot of venue to rant and rave. But I guess with age comes the wisdom to choose what to say and the balls to find people who will listen. So now, whenever I have an idea -- no matter how stupid it is -- I just dump it on anyone who'll listen -- whether they like it or not!

So, will I close down this blog? Nah! I'm too sentimental for that. That'll be like throwing away a chunk of my life. After doing some major spring cleaning and throwing out a lot of my stuff, I'd rather keep my chunk of cyberspace intact. Once in a while, I'm sure I'd love to come back to reminisce or simply put some thoughts out there in case the universe is listening. After all, that's one of the things I've always loved about blogging -- since I'm not a popular person, I highly doubt that anyone will ever get to read this specific post. As such, it feels like shouting at the top of my lungs in a place where no one will ever hear. I like that thought -- makes me feel publicly private.

But just in case someone does get to read this post, leave me a line on the comments and tell me how you got here and how come you've read up to this point! I figure that'll be interesting. :)

So there, have a great life! See you on Twitter! I'm officially signing off from here... For now.

[Share-worthy] Surprise Wedding: Bride Had No Idea

I'm not a fan of love stories. What I like though are rom-coms. For me, this story is like a rom-com -- crazy and surreal with a dash of humor, but in the end -- it IS a sappy love story! <3

Kudos to Shawn for pulling this off! But man, aren't you lucky to have a beautiful woman like Colleen, who obviously loves the simple joys of life and seems to value the special people in her life more than anything else.

And Colleen, you're undoubtedly just as lucky to have a man like Shawn, who would risk looking like a big ass in front of all your family and friends just to give the 'Princess Bride' wedding that you deserve.

Best wishes to you both! :)
